A 25th anniversary at the Chilfen Group

Last week we celebrated our Project Manager/CAD Technician Karl Pearson’s 25th year anniversary with the Chilfen Group. Karl and his team enjoyed a meal at Smiths of Smithfield to celebrate this impressive milestone.

Joint Managing Director Michelle Dear says, “Karl is a highly valued member of our team. He has always taken opportunities within the business as they arrive, starting here as a part-qualified Bench Joiner from Merdews. After starting employment at Chilfen he continued with his training and obtained his qualifications in Bench Joinery. Karl’s career progressed within the group over the years as he took the role of Assistant Supervisor, then CNC Operator, he now holds the position of Project Manager and CAD Technician. We have always been impressed with Karl’s motivation and enthusiasm for the various roles he has filled within Chilfen Joinery Limited”.

Karl is currently interviewing for a Junior CAD Technician to join the team of four within his department. He is also completing a project involving high-end residential joinery at Campden Grove worth £185k.

Chilfen starts work at Sea Containers House, London

Sea Containers House is a noted and prominent landmark located in London’s South Bank area along the path of the river Thames, famed for its grand design. Originally conceived as a luxury hotel, the building takes its current name from its previous occupants Sea Containers Ltd where it was used as their headquarters.

After Sea Containers Ltd’s departure, the south wing of the building was renovated by the world renowned Morgans Group into the ultra-contemporary Mondrian Hotel London, bringing part of the building back to its original use. The east and west wings are now being designed and refurbished into office spaces, including the new head quarters for Ogilvy & Mather Group Holdings Ltd. It will also include exciting public spaces such as a winter garden, restaurants, cafes and even an amphitheater.

Chilfen Joinery Ltd is extremely proud to be appointed a £2 million contract to manufacture and install joinery and furniture at Sea Containers House. Working across 12 floors in the new Ogilvy head office. The work will take place over floors 1 to 3 and 6 to 13 on the east and west wings and is expected to complete summer 2015. Architects BDG are driving the project with focus on “enhanced communication through movement, choice and availability of a diverse range of spaces”*. The result will be a cutting edge workplace in terms of design and architecture.

Working alongside our client Structuretone (construction management and general contracting), we are producing and installing various joinery and furniture solutions throughout the building. These include:

  • Reception desks
  • Copy points
  • Tea breakout points with Pyrolave worktops
  • Coffee bars
  • Fitted seating
  • Touchdown benching
  • Booth seating (finished in Spinneybeck leather)
  • Bistro bar and seating
  • Lacquered wall paneling
  • Door sets

Chilfen are excited to be working on such a prestigious project and in such a fantastic, diverse building with such a strong and historic presence on the London landscape. The work is being led by our dedicated projects team who are relishing working on such a demanding and rewarding venture. We look forward to sharing details of the finished project over the coming months.

A Fantastic Night at the Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards

Thursday 14th May 2015 saw the Chilfen team attend the awards ceremony and gala dinner for the Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards. The awards were held at the impressive Porsche Centre in Hatfield.

Unfortunately Chilfen didn’t walk away with an award this time, but it was great to be part of a truly inspiring evening and talk to lots of other local businesses. We had a great time and would like to thank all those involved for a fantastic evening.
