Chilfen Joinery welcomes John Everett to the team

With a career that spans over 29 years in the Joinery trade, we are proud to welcome John Everett to the Chilfen Joinery team.

John has recently taken on the role of Project Director and brings with him a wealth of experience gained from a multitude of sectors, especially within Commercial, High-end Residential, Retail and Heritage.

John has built solid knowledge and insight and an impressive skill set over the years, having progressed through the trade working in a range of positions, from Bench Joiner and Workshop Manager to CAD Technician and Design Director. He is also well versed in managing complex, multi-disciplined projects with individual project values ranging from £150,000 to £3.5million.

When John was in his twenties, he took a break away from the natural career progression expected within the trade, and accepted a permanent post in the Antarctic for a period of two years where he worked as a Carpenter & Joiner for the British Antarctic Survey. We’re sure John has many exciting stories to share about his experiences over there!

We look forward to working with John on many exciting new projects!

Pyrolave at Sea Containers House, London

It is always welcome when the team at Chilfen Joinery get to work with an exciting new material, process or finish on a project. The recent works at Sea Containers House in London was no exception. The architects involved in the refurbishment of the east and west wings of the building helped transform the space into a cutting-edge, urban environment with sleek and chic finishes throughout. One of the more notable materials chosen for use on area’s such as counter tops and bar paneling was Pyrolave, a natural and glazed lava stone.

The Pryrolave brand is used by architects and interior designers worldwide who are looking for a special finishing touch to their design or project. Volvic lava stone is extracted from the Nugere crater at Volvic in France. The stone is processed in its natural form and then glazed with a wide choice of colours. The result is a impressive, hard wearing, contemporary finish.

Chilfen’s Project Director, Adam Payne visited the Pyrolave factory in the Toulouse region of France where the lava stone is manufactured. He was able to oversee the production of the panels for the job which were completed on site before shipping to the UK.

The end result was a truly stunning finish at Sea Containers House, with various eye catching coloured glazes used on multiple surfaces.
