Founded in 1846 with offices throughout the world, the renowned international law firm Bird & Bird recently moved to its new UK headquarters on New Fetter Lane, occupying a triangular island site in the centre of London’s prime legal district.

A key factor during the development of this 147,000-square foot project has been environmental sustainability; the building has achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating due to its modern energy efficient design, offering a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions compared to current building regulations.

MCM Architecture coordinated the architectural and interior design for this impressive twelve floor fit-out, while the main contractor on this notable project was leading construction service providers Structure Tone Ltd who, over the years, have engaged Chilfen Joinery on a number of prominent projects. As subcontractors, Chilfen Joinery were appointed to manufacture and install joinery across all floors of the sophisticated office building, from working through the design approval process through to complete manufacture and installation.

The comprehensive suite of joinery services offered by Chilfen covered all spaces including lobby, reception, meet & greet, business lounge, flexible spaces and break-out areas. Examples of bespoke joinery products created by Chilfen Joinery to complement the agile and collaborative design include: quiet booths, Kvadrat fabric wall panelling, chestnut veneer ceiling panels, door sets, cantilevered seating, concierge pods with integrated iPad docking, coat & storage cupboards finished in white washed oak veneer and a feature reception desk wrapped in chestnut veneer with specialist applied Bronze metal coating to provide a real bronze finish and feel.
